PayPal Payouts is one of our most popular add-ons as it lets site admins effortlessly process payments for their affiliates through a PayPal account. This add-on has, however, always had a limitation: it required PayPal MassPay which is not available to all PayPal accounts. Today I’m thrilled to announce that the limitation is no longer a factor as we have just released a new version of PayPal Payouts that now permits you to use the PayPal REST API to process payouts, a feature available to all PayPal business accounts.
On the settings page of PayPal Payouts, you will now be asked to select which payout method you’d like to use, either API Application or MassPay:
If your account has MassPay enabled, you can continue using it exactly as before and no additional setup is required. If, however, you would like to use an API Application, you can now select that as your payout method and then proceed to enter your API credentials.
To use an API Application, you will first need to log into the PayPal Developer portal (don’t worry, it’s not just for developers) and create an application. This process is explained in our documentation.
We are really pleased to have this update ready for you as it dramatically increases the number of customers that PayPal Payouts is now accessible to.

This is just in time for the launch of our affiliate program on ThePerfectPlugin.com. Are there any limitations on the number of referrals that can be paid out at one time? I think MassPay has a limitation of 250 at a time, or something like that.
It’s limited to 500 per payout and a maximum of $10,000 per payout.

I was thinking about working with you guys to add an option for automatic payments, so that you can schedule your payouts for a certain time period — Daily, Weekly, or Monthly.
