Would you like to turn on loyalty rewards for your customers? The Points Program toggle is the control center of your points system. One click activates the engine that lets customers earn, track, and redeem points. Another click pauses it without erasing anything you’ve built.
This guide explains exactly what happens when you switch the program on or off, when you might want to pause it temporarily, and how to fix common issues if the toggle doesn’t behave as expected.
Finding the Program Status Setting
The Points Program toggle lives at the top of the Points tab inside RewardsWP settings. It’s intentionally placed there so you always know the current state of your program before scrolling into earning or redemption rules.
To find it:
- Open RewardsWP » Settings in your WordPress admin
- Click the Points tab
- Look for Program Status at the top
Here you’ll see a badge showing Active or Inactive, reflecting the saved state of your program.
Enabling the Points Program
When you’re ready to launch your loyalty program, enabling it is a single click.
To enable the Points Program:
- Go to RewardsWP » Settings » Points
- Find the Program Status toggle
- Click the toggle to turn it on
- Click Save Changes
The badge next to “Program Status” will change from Inactive to Active, confirming your program is now live.
Before enabling, ensure you’ve configured:
- At least one earning action — Customers need a way to earn points (purchases, signups, reviews, etc.)
- At least one redemption reward — Customers need a way to spend their points (discounts, free shipping, etc.)
Disabling the Points Program
Disabling the Points Program is just as straightforward as enabling it.
To disable the Points Program:
- Go to RewardsWP » Settings » Points
- Find the Program Status toggle
- Click the toggle to turn it off
- Click Save Changes
The badge will change from Active to Inactive, confirming the program is now disabled.
Important: Disabling the program does not delete any data. All member balances, points history, and configuration settings are preserved. You can re-enable the program at any time and everything will resume exactly where it left off.

What Changes When You Toggle the Program
Understanding what happens in each state helps you make informed decisions about when to enable or disable your Points Program.
When the Program is Enabled
Points earning is active. Customers earn points for all configured actions—purchases, account creation, product reviews, and more. Points are automatically calculated and credited to member balances.
Product page notices appear. If you’ve enabled purchase points, product pages display a notice telling customers how many points they’ll earn for buying that product.
The Rewards Widget shows the points section. Logged-in members see their points balance and available redemption rewards in the widget.
Email notifications are sent. Customers receive notifications about earned points, and (with Pro) expiring points alerts.
Points can be redeemed. Members can exchange their accumulated points for the rewards you’ve configured.
When the Program is Disabled
Points earning stops. No new points are awarded for any action, regardless of your earning rules configuration. Purchases, signups, and reviews do not generate points.
Product page notices are hidden. The “Earn X points with this purchase” message no longer appears on product pages.
The points section is hidden from the Rewards Widget. Members don’t see their balance or redemption options. However, if the Referral Program is still active, the widget continues to display referral features.
Point redemption is unavailable. Even members with existing balances cannot redeem their points while the program is disabled.
Your data is preserved. All existing member balances, points history, and configuration settings remain intact in the database.
That’s it! A loyalty program works best when it feels predictable and reliable. The Points Program toggle in RewardsWP gives you the power to launch and pause your program without disrupting the core experience or losing customer balances. Whether you’re preparing your structure, refining your reward economy, or troubleshooting quietly behind the scenes, the system stays intact and resumes instantly when you’re ready.
