2015 was a great year for everyone here at AffiliateWP and we hope it was as grand and prosperous for you. As we roll into the new year and 2016, it is time for us to announce a few slight changes to AffiliateWP’s licensing system and our terms of purchase.
License keys for AffiliateWP are distributed on a yearly basis, meaning they expire one year after purchase and need to be renewed in order to retain access to support, updates, and file downloads.
If you are at all like us, it is a hassle to renew your license keys each year, especially if your site relies on numerous commercial plugins that must each be renewed separately.
Today, we are happy to announce a change that will make license renewals entirely hassle-free! As of this afternoon, all new license keys will renew automatically each year on the anniversary of the purchase date, and they will continue to renew as so long as the subscription has not been cancelled. For those customers who do wish to renew manually each year, cancelling the subscription can be actioned from the account page at any time.
For all business owners and those who love to save time and hassle, this change will make keeping your site up-to-date simple and worry-free.
Along with this change, we have also adjusted our purchase terms and refund policy slightly. The complete adjusted terms can be viewed here.
Will existing license keys be made to automatically renew?
No, we will not be changing any of our customers’ existing license keys. Only new license keys or customers who choose to renew their existing keys will then renew automatically thereafter.
Can an existing key be made to renew automatically?
Yes! If you would like to update your license key so that it renews automatically, simply visit your account page and renew or extend your license key(s). After checkout is complete, they will be set up to renew automatically.
What if I do not want a subscription?
Your subscription can be cancelled at any time after purchase. Once cancelled, your license key will not renew automatically and will expire on the expiration date. Once expired, you will no longer receive automatic updates or have access to support. You may manually renew your license at any time to reactivate your subscription.

It is part of a new version of the Recurring Payments plugin that we are getting ready to release. We should have a beta announcement and preview post sometime next week.

Now, if I could only get Affiliate WP to work for me, I might be tempted to enjoy this marvelous benefit you’ve created just for me. But, alas, I am swimming in add-ins that you offer that aren’t yours that the creator has fixed but which is not yet been approved for release as a fixed plugin so I sit with not site, contemplating buying yet another piece of software for less than your accomplice wants to charge me to fix my site.

First, you are 100% correct: while this is a benefit to our customers it is also a large benefit for us. Why does that matter? It matters because it helps us to stay in business and to continually improve not only our product but also the support and assistance that we can provide to our customers. It is a positive change in every way.
Now, regarding the problems that you have encountered, that is unfortunate. The problems, however, are entirely due to issues with 3rd party add-ons that you have purchased from developers that are in no way associated with our team. We advertise the add-ons for these developers as they are built specifically to run on top of AffiliateWP, but we are not involved in the build process of them, nor are we involved with the update or support processes. This means that our support, our warranties, and our guarantees do not cover 3rd party add-ons. That is inherently the nature of them being 3rd party.
The license key you purchase from us guarantees you support and updates for AffiliateWP and all official add-ons available on our website. Those are built by our team and so we sanction and support them.
Am I saying you should never use 3rd party add-ons? Absolutely not! I am, however, telling you that you should not allow your experience with 3rd party add-ons tarnish the opinion you have of AffiliateWP or your experience with it. If you look over the very long list of questions you have submitted to us, I am confident you will find nothing but superb, efficient assistance. It’s too bad the same experience has not been had with some of the 3rd party add-ons but that is outside of our control.
