Motivate your customers to spend more with VIP Tiers
You can now run a VIP program in RewardsWP Pro, with tiers your customers move up by what they spend, the points they earn or the friends they refer. Each tier can reward them with a points multiplier on every purchase, an entry reward the moment they reach it and perks you choose.
A customer on their tenth order has a bigger reward to aim for than one on their first, and the rewards widget shows them exactly how far away it is. Visitors who haven’t joined yet see your tiers too, with what each one gives, so they have a reason to sign up.
First, let me show you how to choose who becomes a VIP, then what each tier gives them.
Choose what makes a customer a VIP
Every VIP program starts with what moves a customer up, and in VIP Tiers you choose how customers qualify, once, for every tier.
- Total amount spent, for stores where the order value is what matters.
- Points earned, counted over a customer’s lifetime or over the last 30, 90, 180 or 365 days.
- Completed referrals, for stores that grow through word of mouth.
Then you give each tier its threshold, such as Silver at 1,000 points and Gold at 1,500.
Counting points over the last 365 days keeps your top tier for the customers earning now, so somebody who earned a lot two years ago doesn’t hold it forever.
Give higher tiers bigger rewards
Once a customer reaches a tier, what they unlock is up to you, because VIP Tiers gives each tier up to three kinds of reward.
- A points multiplier on every purchase. A customer on 2x earns twice the points on each order.
- Entry rewards when they reach the tier. An entry reward can be a fixed or percentage coupon, free shipping on WooCommerce, a free product or bonus points, and each customer gets a tier’s entry rewards once.
- Perks you write yourself, such as early access to a sale.
On your store, customers see the same rewards for every tier in their rewards widget, beside the icon you choose for it, so a Silver customer knows what Gold would give them. When they move up, the Tier Reached email tells them what they’ve unlocked.
Give customers time to keep their tier
Customers can move down a tier too, when they earn fewer points over your window or a refund takes them below a threshold. VIP Tiers can wait 30, 60 or 90 days before it happens, since a few quiet months shouldn’t cost a good customer their tier.
When a grace period starts, the Tier At Risk email tells the customer what it takes to keep their tier, and the widget shows the same line. If they’re still short when it ends, the Tier Demoted email tells them they can earn their way back.
There’s one thing to keep in mind though. On lifetime points, a customer only moves down after a refund or a cancelled order, so there’s no grace period to set.
See how each tier performs
To see whether your higher tiers really do spend more, the RewardsWP Reports screen now has a Tier performance table. For each tier it shows how many customers hold it, their spend and orders per person and their average order value, each compared with the tier below.
That comparison tells you whether your tiers are set right. If Gold customers spend barely more than Silver ones, it’s a sign to raise Gold’s threshold or give it rewards worth reaching.
See each member’s tier in your admin
The same detail is there one member at a time too. The Members list in RewardsWP has a VIP Tier column you can sort and filter by, so you can find everyone in your top tier in one click.
Open a member’s page and the VIP Tier stat at the top shows their tier and how far they are from the next one, so you can answer straight away when they ask about their status.
And when you export your members, their tier, the date they reached it and whether it’s at risk go with them, so you can email each tier from your own email tool.
Getting started
Setting up VIP Tiers takes four steps on a WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads store.
- Go to RewardsWP > Settings > VIP.
- Choose how customers qualify.
- Add your tiers, with a threshold and rewards for each.
- Turn on Program Status and click Save Changes.
When you save, RewardsWP places your existing customers in their tiers in the background, using their history with your store. It sends no emails and gives no entry rewards during that first placement, so nobody gets a surprise message the day you launch. From then on, customers get the Tier Reached email and that tier’s entry rewards each time they move up.
The VIP program docs cover every setting.
If you’d like to see it working first, try VIP Tiers live as a demo member on the Silver tier.
Available on RewardsWP Pro and the Growth Bundle
With VIP Tiers, that customer on their tenth order now has a tier to reach, and so does the one on their first.
VIP Tiers is included with RewardsWP Pro and the Growth Bundle, so all you need is the latest update. If you’re on another plan, see what Pro includes. Every plan comes with our 14-day money-back guarantee.
Next step: set up VIP Tiers at RewardsWP > Settings > VIP, then filter the Members list by your top tier. I’d bet more of your members are already in it than you expect.
VIP Tiers FAQs
You need the RewardsWP points program only for tiers that count points earned, and for the points multiplier. Tiers by total amount spent or completed referrals work with points turned off.
The VIP Tiers multiplier applies only to points from purchases. Points for signing up, birthdays, reviews, referrals, a first order or a manual adjustment keep their set value.
Not as an automatic reward. An entry reward can be a fixed or percentage coupon, free shipping on WooCommerce, a free product or bonus points. Anything else, such as store credit or an invite to an event, can go in as a perk. Members see perks in their rewards widget, and you take care of them yourself.
No, VIP Tiers doesn’t reset anyone’s points. To tie tiers to recent activity, count points earned over the last 30, 90, 180 or 365 days instead, and each member’s balance stays as it is.
No. VIP Tiers needs an active WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads store, even when your tiers count points or referrals.
