Would you like your VIP members to earn points faster than everyone else? A points multiplier boosts the points a member earns on purchases while they hold a tier. For example, a 2x Gold member gets 200 points for an order that earns a regular member 100.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to set a multiplier on a tier and how RewardsWP calculates the boosted points. All you need is a Pro license level, a VIP tier, and the Points Program turned on.
Requirements: The VIP Program requires a Pro license level and an active WooCommerce or Easy Digital Downloads store.
Before you get started, make sure RewardsWP is installed and activated on your WordPress site, and that you’ve created a VIP tier.
Setting a Points Multiplier
To get started, we’ll open the tier you want to boost.
From your WordPress admin sidebar, go to RewardsWP » Settings. Next, click the VIP tab. On that tier’s card, click Edit.
In the Benefits part of the drawer that opens, find Points Multiplier.
In this field, enter how much faster members earn on purchases at this tier. New tiers start at 1, which means members earn as usual.
A value of 1.5 means 50% more, and 2 means double. Decimals are allowed, and the value can’t be lower than 1.
When you’re done, click Save at the bottom of the drawer.
After that, click Save Changes in the bar with the settings tabs.
The new multiplier applies to points members earn from that moment on.
Note: Multipliers only apply while the Points Program is on. If it’s off, the drawer tells you the multiplier won’t apply until you turn Points back on.

How Are Multiplied Points Calculated?
The multiplier follows a few simple rules about which points it boosts and how it rounds.
Which Points Are Multiplied
The multiplier boosts points members earn on purchases. Every other way to earn keeps the value you set for it, so a review worth 100 points is worth 100 points at every tier. Points that are never multiplied include:
- Points for account signups, product reviews, birthdays, referrals, and first order bonuses.
- Points you add by hand from the Members screen.
- Points given as a VIP entry reward.
Keeping these fixed means a fixed-value reward costs you the same whatever tier the member holds.
How the Math Works
RewardsWP multiplies the points the purchase would normally award. Then it rounds down to a whole number.
For example, a purchase normally earns 51 points, and the member’s tier has a 1.25x multiplier. That member earns 63 points (51 × 1.25 = 63.75, rounded down).
The multiplier comes from the tier the member holds when the points are awarded.
What Customers See
On WooCommerce and Easy Digital Downloads product pages, the points notice shows a logged-in member the boosted amount for their tier. Guests and members without a tier see the regular amount. In the Rewards Widget, the tier’s benefits list shows the multiplier, so members know what their status is worth.
With the math in place, the next step is picking a multiplier for each tier.
Choosing Multipliers for Your Ladder
Multipliers work best when each tier’s boost is a clear step up from the last, such as 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, and 2x.
Keep in mind that a multiplier raises what each purchase is worth to that member. With the default rewards, 100 points are worth $1 off. At that rate, a 2x multiplier on a program that awards 5 points per $1 gives that member the equivalent of 10% back.
